  • Multi-factor authentication is enforced on all admin and email accounts
  • You know which frameworks apply to you (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS) and where you stand against them
  • You have a documented incident response plan, not just an informal understanding
  • Data at rest and in transit is encrypted across production systems
  • Vendor and third-party access is reviewed on a regular schedule

Infrastructure & Cost

  • You could explain your current cloud spend and what's driving it
  • There's a tested backup and disaster recovery plan, not just backups that have never been restored
  • Infrastructure is defined as code, not built by hand and undocumented
  • You have visibility into uptime and performance without relying on customer complaints

Technical Debt

  • You could list your riskiest legacy systems without having to ask engineering first
  • There's a plan (even informal) for systems running on unsupported or end-of-life platforms
  • New features don't regularly get delayed by fragile, hard-to-change code
  • Database growth and structure are monitored, not just discovered when something breaks

Team & Process

  • Engineering decisions are made against a roadmap, not purely ticket-by-ticket
  • There's more than one person who understands how critical systems work
  • You have a clear point of technical escalation when something urgent breaks
  • Technology spend and priorities get reviewed at the leadership level, not just within IT
